Arraignment Today in Woman’s Shooting Death
A man who told police he accidentally shot his fiance to death last weekend is scheduled for arraignment today on murder charges.
Kevin Daniel Driscoll allegedly killed his bride-to-be, Shahrzad Azizi, in their apartment in the 22100 block of Burbank Boulevard as her son from a previous marriage listened from his bedroom, Los Angeles police said.
The shooting occurred shortly before 5:50 p.m. Friday, when Driscoll telephoned the West Valley Police Station and told officers he had killed Azizi “by accident.”
But homicide Det. Rick Swanston said the number of shots fired casts doubt on Driscoll’s story.
“He had a semiautomatic pistol with four or five shots fired out of it,” Swanston said. “That didn’t quite jibe.”
An autopsy revealed that Azizi had been shot in the back, Swanston said.
Swanston said Driscoll, 25, was “hostile” and “uncooperative” after his initial confession.
The victim’s 9-year-old son told police he heard the couple arguing violently before the shooting, then heard the gunshots and walked out of his room to see his mother on the floor, dying, Swanston said.
Azizi was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where she died.
Driscoll was being held in Van Nuys Jail without bail.
Driscoll and Azizi, 30, were to be married next month, Swanston said.
