3 Girls Missing From Group Home Found Safe

Three teenage girls who walked away from a group home for emotionally disturbed children over the weekend were found unharmed Monday morning.

The girls, ages 13, 14 and 15, all wards of the state, had argued Saturday with their foster care supervisor and disappeared after a group outing to a movie theater, police said.

A search party canvassed the area near the home, which is in the 1700 Block of Kingsley Avenue, but could find no trace of the girls.

After putting out a public bulletin with the girls’ descriptions Sunday, police found them sleeping on the floor at a friend’s house, several miles away from the group home.

Police were tipped off after questioning the girls’ classmates at the Burton Green Guidance School.

“They were totally baffled how we found them,” said Los Angeles Police Officer Todd Carpenter.

At least one of the girls had run away several times before and was in her 11th foster home, he said.
