Today marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a sort of Bill of Rights for the world. To commemorate this, Amnesty International commissioned photographer Phil Borges to create a series of images symbolizing human dignity and freedom. “Phil Borges: Enduring Spirit,” a collection of portraits of indigenous people living in cultures in jeopardy of becoming extinct, opens today at Tasende Gallery.

The Silent Society of Hollywood Heritage and the UCLA Film and TV Archive present “Holiday Silent Night,” an evening of silent films including Harry Langdon’s 1928 bittersweet romance “Three’s a Crowd” and the short films “The Little Match Girl” (1922) with Madge Evans, “The Insect’s Christmas” (1913) and “There Ain’t No Santa Claus” (1926) with Charley Chase. With live musical accompaniment by Michael Mortilla. Film historian Frank Thomson will introduce the films.
