Festival to Celebrate Multicultural Holidays

A festival offering free holiday fun reflecting many cultures will take place at Lake Balboa Park on Saturday.

The Solstice Sensation Holiday Festival will offer activities themed to four holiday traditions--Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and Las Posadas--said Veronica Rodriguez, senior recreation director at Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Park in Pacoima.

Sponsored by the Valley Region of the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the celebration will feature African and folk-dancing as well as carolers, Rodriguez said.

Children will be treated to free hot dogs and stockings filled with candy handed out by Santa Claus.

Booths themed to each of the traditions will also offer gift- and ornament-making activities. The festival is from 1 to 4 p.m. at the boat dock of the park at 6200 Balboa Blvd. For more information, call Rodriguez at (818) 896-6510.
