Hot Off the Printer

“Deliver in print rather than print and deliver.” That’s the slogan for Hewlett-Packard’s new Instant Delivery software--a program that brings news to your home computer printer instead of to your doorstep. Today marks its debut.

USA Today is already using the technology with its Web site; the Wall Street Journal, Time magazine, Marvel Comics, National Geographic and the online magazine Slate plan to offer the service before year’s end. And you can use the software to schedule automatic delivery from any URL.

You can pick the time you’d like your news retrieved. The program then visits the Web site, gathers the news and prints the publication.

“If we can get our content to people who would prefer to read it on the train, we’re very into that,” says Slate publisher Rogers Weed.

Available for free online at https://www.instant-delivery.com, Instant Delivery is compatible with Hewlett-Packard printers only.
