A Few ‘Stepmom’ Party Vibes

Too much security around Susan Sarandon! That’s what some who attended the big premiere of “Stepmom” thought when the great actress arrived at New York’s Ziegfeld Tuesday night and also later when she appeared at the Rainbow Room party. One veteran partygoer groused that Sarandon and her guy Tim Robbins had a security team “that rivaled that of Hillary Clinton.” Others said that there was definitely a “bad vibe” about the event, and even wondered whether Sarandon and “Stepmom” co-star Julia Roberts were on the outs. Oh, that’s the problem with being in public life. If you’re not smiling at each other constantly, you have to be “feuding.”

The surprise of the night was Roberts, usually so jittery about such events. She arrived aglow on the arm of her steady, Benjamin Bratt. Roberts schmoozed the crowd with aplomb. Recently there have been rumors that Bratt and Roberts were kaput or on their way to some distancing, but those close to the pair insist, “It’s never been better between them. They are more ‘together’ than ever.”
