Pierce College Delays a Decision on Land
A decision on the fate of 240 acres at Pierce College has been postponed three months, giving the school time to revisit proposals to develop the land.
The trustees of the Los Angeles Community College District voted Wednesday to delay consideration of the matter until March. Board President Elizabeth Garfield said the district wanted time to hire an asset manager to review the Pierce plan and other proposed district projects.
Dozens of people addressed trustees Wednesday, voicing a mix of support for development plans that could bring Pierce more classes, and opposition to building on the school’s open space.
Pierce officials initially rejected several development proposals, but began reconsidering three of them earlier this month after deciding they needed more information from the bidders.
A college task force this week interviewed the three bidders, all of whom have proposed building a golf course and other facilities on the land. Included in the discussions were representatives of Councilwoman Laura Chick, Woodland Hills Homeowners Organization and the Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce.
