SAN CLEMENTE
In response to the severe erosion of beaches caused by last winter’s El Nino storms, the City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to establish a temporary preservation committee that will immediately apply for federal funds to purchase replacement sand.
The committee, which will include Councilwoman Susan Ritschel and Beaches, Parks and Recreation Director Bruce Wegner, also will study a long list of beach issues, such as water quality, recreation and habitat.
