Weather Taking on a Hazy Shade of Winter

Despite a week of record heat, Ventura County residents can expect a cold snap this weekend, to be followed by possible wind chill warnings and freezing temperatures on Monday.

Minor drizzle was expected overnight Friday, with lows in the mid-40s, meteorologist Bill Hoffer of the National Weather Service said.

Morning fog today was expected to clear this afternoon, with highs throughout the county in the lower to mid-60s. Sunday will bring mostly cloudy skies and similar temperatures, Hoffer said.

“We have an upper-level low pressure area that is again moving down our coast from the Gulf of Alaska,” Hoffer said. The low pressure area is responsible for the colder temperatures.

An advisory on winds topping 25 mph could be issued Sunday night, Hoffer said. Wind chills dipping below zero are possible in the mountains Sunday, and record low temperatures could register throughout the county Monday.

The snow level could also fall to 3,000 feet on Monday, he said.

Travelers going to the mountains should protect their pets from the cold, place sensitive plants indoors and carry snow chains, extra clothing and food, Hoffer said. People are also advised to listen to weather forecasts.
