Restaurant Robbery Victim Dies
A cook whose throat was slashed last week in a brutal robbery at a Grinder restaurant has died of his wounds.
A supervisor at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center identified the victim as Galdino Vanegas, 36, and said he died Saturday evening. Earlier, doctors had expressed optimism that he would survive.
The robbery occurred late on Dec. 13 at the Grinder restaurant at 1301 Sepulveda Blvd. near Torrance.
One suspect, Jerrell Douglas Jones, is being held in the case, and two others are being sought. Charges against Jones also include robbery, rape and other felonies.
A woman was sexually assaulted during the robbery, and another had her arm broken. Some patrons were forced to disrobe during the 20-minute ordeal.
