Canceled Hearing on Noise at Camarillo Airport Reset

Share

After it was canceled for lack of public notice, a hearing on a study of noise at Camarillo Airport has been reset for Jan. 14.

Rod Murphy, director of county airports, apologized for the mix-up, which he said resulted from county officials failing to post a required notice announcing the hearing.

However, some residents said the snafu reflects deeper problems in Murphy’s department.

“He’s just overstaffed, mismanaged and isn’t doing a good job,” said Robert Fowler, president of the Camarillo Hangar Assn. “It’s a farce, not a noise study.”

Noise studies have been released for the airports in Oxnard and Camarillo. They recommend creation of a county position to handle noise complaints.

A meeting Dec. 9 in Oxnard was canceled because only one of four Oxnard Airport Authority board members showed up. The meeting was held last week and resulted in the study being sent back to a committee for further analysis.
