General Motors will open a new regional office in Thousand Oaks on Jan. 1 for sales, service and parts.

GM recently consolidated into five geographic regions its sales and service personnel from the Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiac/GMC divisions. Thousand Oaks will be headquarters for the western region and will include representatives from General Motors Service Parts Organization.

The Thousand Oaks office will direct wholesale sales, service and parts teams working with dealers in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii.

The office will be led by general manager Douglas J. Herberger, who began his GM career in 1973.

Herberger, along with his four regional counterparts across the nation, will be responsible for “moving GM from a distribution-based to a marketing-based organization,” said Darwin Clark, vice president for vehicle sales, service and parts. “Each of our five general managers will be empowered to make decisions which best represent General Motors in their individual market areas.”

Working with Herberger will be 36 market area managers.
