Deputies Approve Pact With County
Ventura County Deputy Sheriff’s Assn. members have overwhelmingly approved a contract that will give members raises every six months for the next two years, officials said.
The ratification comes after 18 months of negotiations between the association and the county.
The county Board of Supervisors is expected to vote on the agreement in early January.
The deputies union contended that member salaries lagged 7.6% behind that of other law enforcement agencies.
The new contract will give members a 4% raise every six months between January 1999 and December 2000, when the contract expires.
In exchange for the salary increase, the association agreed to relinquish its right to appeal statements in performance reviews to an arbitration board.
Before voting, the association held four ratification meetings with its members on Dec. 21 and 22 to explain the details of the proposed contract and to recommend acceptance.
