* Laura L. Amundsen; Retired Ventura Educator Laura L. Amundsen died Friday in a Ventura convalescent hospital after a long illness. She was 89.

Amundsen was born June 5, 1909, in Lawrence, Kan. She moved to Ventura from Aurora, Colo., in 1944.

Amundsen was a teacher for 25 years, retiring in 1974 from the Ventura Unified School District as a special education teacher at Washington Elementary School.

She was a member of the California Teachers Assn. and the National Education Assn. and past president of Washington Elementary’s Parent Teacher Assn.

Amundsen was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Henry Amundsen, who died in 1981. Earl Amundsen was also a longtime teacher with the Ventura Unified School District.

Amundsen is survived by two sons, Alan Amundsen of La Crescenta and Ronald Smith of Grand Junction, Colo.; a daughter, Monte Tozzi of Bloomington, Ind., seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Contributions can be made in Amundsen’s name to the Ventura Education Partnership Assn. in Ventura. There will be no services.

Arrangements are being handled by Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
