Valley Glen Name Change

Re “Valley Glen Name-Change Proposal,” Jan. 18.

A letter from Abigail Spiegel appeared in reference to the issue of the Valley Glen name change, and noted Councilman [Mike] Feuer’s supposed lack of effort in our area of the Valley.

I am a member of the Livable Neighborhoods Council (LNC). However, I am writing as a resident of the area defined as Valley Glen. I have lived in the Valley since 1965, and I can tell you that this councilman is one of the most active I have ever seen.

Through the LNC, we have established a neighborhood education program that tutors low-income children, offers English classes to non-English-speaking adults and provides parent education classes, among other efforts.

A project to paint a large mural in an area of heavy graffiti will be done soon. Even undesirable merchants, such as pawnshops, have successfully been stopped from operating in our neighborhood.

All of this has been done through the LNC and with Feuer’s active support. He helped create the LNC. Still, none of us are political appointees. All the board members volunteer their time and work hard to improve the community, both inside the boundaries of Valley Glen and out.

Feuer’s diligence has helped make these efforts successful, and I am grateful for his help.

* The effort to partition Van Nuys into a proposed section, Valley Glen, is a devious, divisive, racist and self-serving real estate valuation ploy.

Let’s put the measure up for a vote of all the eligible Van Nuys voters.

I shall be grossly disappointed in any City Council member who affirmatively supports this class-conscious partition plan.
