Honoring kids who raise their hands to help; more Spielberg toons join Mowgli Saturday

The 1998 NBA TeamUp Celebration (NBC, Saturday at 9 a.m.), an hourlong special anchored by “NBA Inside Stuff” co-hosts Ahmad Rashad and Willow Bay, recognizes young people who have shown extraordinary dedication to volunteerism. Students who have made a positive impact on their communities are also honored. Scheduled guests include supermodel Tyra Banks and artist LL Cool J. For ages 13 to 16.

Fox has launched a new Saturday morning schedule that includes Mowgli: The New Adventures of the Jungle Book (Saturday at 7 a.m.) This live-action adventure is based on Rudyard Kipling’s classic children’s stories about a boy who is raised by jungle animals in India after he survives a plane crash as a baby. For ages 2 to 11.

Also new to Fox is a cartoon variety show, Steven Spielberg Presents Toonsylvania, (Saturday at 8:30 a.m.), featuring Igor and his big monster pal, Phil. For ages 6 to 17.

In a spinoff from “Eerie, Indiana,” Eerie Indiana: The Other Dimension (Saturday at 10 a.m.) introduces two new friends--Mitchell, 13, and Stanley, 11--who, like their predecessors, try to find out why weird things happen in their town and the universe. They are seeking to save Eerie from becoming the center of weirdness. For ages 6 to 17.

Based on the popular Marvel comic book hero, Silver Surfer (Saturday at 10:30 a.m.), is about a man who battles villains on his intergalactic search to find his home world. For ages 6 to 17.

The Power Rangers’ saga continues with Power Rangers in Space (Fox, Friday at 4 p.m.) as the young heroes are sent into space in their new Astro Megaship. Their goal: to conquer Divatox, the villain. They get new powers from Andros, a mysterious Ranger. For ages 6 to 11.

Four young children take a mystical trip through a time tunnel to learn the true meaning of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech on the half-hour special One Day (Disney Channel, Saturday at 7 p.m.). The children learn about injustices first hand. The film is directed by Debbie Allen and features Loretta Devine, Ed Begley Jr. and singer James Ingram. The program is part of Black History Month. For the family.
