City Sets Workshop on Community Plan

The Los Angeles Planning Department will conduct a workshop Wednesday on the Community Plan Update Program for Sun Valley.

Ron Maben, a city planner for the department, is seeking opinions from Sun Valley residents on what needs to be updated in the community plan.

“The Planning Department is making a meaningful effort to incorporate the input of the citizens and people who live in the community, and that’s what the workshop is for,” said Maben, who will coordinate it with Joey Vasquez, associate planner.

Information gathered at the workshop will be combined with population projections, traffic studies and other data in drafting a proposal for an updated community plan, said Maben. He said the work may take three to five months to complete.

Sun Valley’s community plan area, which covers about 10,000 acres in the northeast Valley, is one of 35 in the Land Use Element of the Los Angeles General Plan.

The community includes single-family dwellings, open space and industrial areas, such as rock and gravel mining operations and plants for processing cement and concrete. Maben said it has the city’s highest concentration of mineral-processing facilities.

The workshop--open only to Sun Valley residents--will take place from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Sun Valley Recreation Center, 8133 Vineland Ave.
