City Leases Oxford Fields, Multipurpose Room for 10 Years

The city of Cypress has received a 10-year lease to use fields and a multipurpose room at Oxford Junior High School for recreation programs.

The Anaheim Union High School District last week approved the lease involving 8,348 square feet of the campus.

Instead of paying rent, the city, as of July 1, will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds, fields and multipurpose room.

The district has leased the space to Cypress on a yearly basis since 1980. The city sought a longer-term lease this year because it plans to spend about $80,000 on repairs, said Marvin DeCarlo, director of recreation and parks.

The rest of the campus is leased to a private school through the end of the school year. A district proposal to reopen the campus as a magnet school has sparked debate.
