Street Closures OKd for 6 Old Towne Events
Under guidelines designed to avoid controversy every time promoters want to close downtown streets, city officials have approved six special-event permits for the year.
Merchants have complained about what they described as excessive street closures, which they say restrict parking and discourage customers.
City Council members last year limited to 20 the number of days that Old Towne streets could be closed in any year.
The Orange Rotary Club’s car show will be held April 19, with a rain date of April 26. The Gogh Van Orange Art and Music Festival was approved for May 16 and 17, and the Orange International Street Fair will run Sept. 4-6.
October has an antique fair on the 25th and Trick or Trick Through the Streets on the 29th.
On Dec. 6, the Plaza will be closed for the traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
