SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Detectives plan to seek an arrest warrant as early as today for a Thousand Oaks day-camp employee in connection with alleged sex crimes, an official said.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Paige said complaints against the employee of the Young Set Club, 400 Rolling Oaks Drive, involve various alleged crimes against two boys, ranging from molestation to sexual battery.

“The investigators are re-interviewing one of the boys, and they’ll be bringing their evidence to the D.A. and requesting a warrant,” Paige said. “We don’t know what type of charges the D.A. will produce. It’s up to him.”

The allegations against the employee, who sheriff’s officials declined to name, surfaced Jan. 15 when they said they were investigating the case. School officials had placed the employee on administrative leave and alerted authorities after a parent complained.

Paige said detectives on the case have talked to more than 50 people associated with the day camp, including faculty, administrators and children. The additional interviews have not uncovered new victims, he said.

Thousand Oaks criminal defense attorney Philip Remington Dunn said Monday he is one of two lawyers hired to represent the employee but declined to comment on the investigation.

Last month another attorney for the employee, Samuel M. Beese, said his client denied the allegations.

The Young Set Club is an American Camping Assn.-accredited facility located in the hills above Moorpark Road near the Los Robles Greens Golf Course. It is described as a year-round day camp and swimming school for children 5 to 12 years old, with an enrollment of around 150 children.

School officials Monday referred questions to Susan Blake, director of administration at the school’s parent organization, Child Development Centers of California, headquartered near San Jose.

Blake said the employee remains on administrative leave while the investigation continues.

“We’re staying focused on the kids,” Blake said. “We’ll continue to cooperate with the investigation.”
