Father, Girl Found After Apparent Murder-Suicide
A 29-year-old man killed his 20-month-old daughter with a shotgun in the Angeles National Forest and then turned the weapon on himself, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Tuesday.
Gustavo Gonzalez of South Gate called relatives Monday night to tell them he intended to drive up California 39 into the forest and commit suicide, Deputy Michael Irving said. His family rushed up the road and found his car parked seven miles north of East Fork Road. Gonzalez’s body was nearby.
After searching the scene in vain for Gonzalez’s daughter, Gessica, the family called sheriff’s deputies to report the toddler missing, Irving said. Deputies found the child’s body in a shallow grave near her father’s remains.
The reason for the apparent murder-suicide was not known, Irving said.
