Mission College Adds Computer Courses

Share

Mission College has scheduled 20 new computer- and Internet-related courses as part of its spring Community Extension Program, school officials said.

The new courses include “E-Mail and the Internet,” “How to Choose the Best Internet Provider,” “Create a Web Site,” “How to Choose the Best Virus Protection” and “Computers for Seniors,” said Ina Yates, public information officer at Mission.

“We have increased the number of computer classes quite a bit from last semester because people are demanding to learn about the latest on computers,” Yates said. “In the past, people were hesitant about computers, but now I think they’re getting into it and their fears are diminishing.”

Also included among the new courses are four media production workshops designed for students preparing to enter the fields of computer animation and design, said Yates, who added that fees for those classes range from $449 to $949.

“Those are our most expensive classes due to the machinery involved,” she said.

The fees for the majority of 180-plus courses offered in the spring semester range from $29 to $99, she said.

Registration is currently underway and students will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until the classes are full. The earliest classes begin Feb. 18.

Yates recommends that prospective students register as early as possible for computer and Internet courses since enrollment is limited to the number of computers available.

Registration is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the extension office in the Community Services Department of Veterans Memorial Park at 13000 Sayre St. in Sylmar. To register by phone call (818) 364-7387 with a credit card.

Fax registrations can be sent by dialing (818) 364-7355. Mail-in registration will also be accepted.
