Returning Players Bolster Channel Islands’ Lineup

Share

Junior Dwight Sattiewhite and senior Paul Blair of the Channel Islands boys’ basketball team are expected to play tonight when the No. 8-ranked Raiders (15-5, 6-4) play at Agoura (11-9, 5-5) in a Marmonte League game.

Sattiewhite, who is averaging a team-high 20.8 points a game, and Blair, who is averaging 9.9, missed both of the Raiders’ games last week because they had the flu.

Without them, Channel Islands lost to No. 2 Simi Valley, 91-75, and to No. 4 Newbury Park, 70-53.

Out of action: Cleveland High freshman guard Schquay Brignac has chicken pox and is expected to be out of action for at least a week.

Brignac is the Cavaliers’ second-leading scorer, averaging 14.4 points, and she leads the team in steals with 5.1 per game.

The loss of Brignac will force the Cavaliers to shuffle their lineup--again. Cleveland has had the services of the same five starters in only two games this season, and only point guard Mishawn Simms has started every game.

While the Cavaliers have lost Brignac, they are expected to regain the services of forward Malinda Malone, who sat out the past seven games at the request of her mother in order to concentrate on academics.

The return of Malone, who was academically eligible to play, should bolster the Cavaliers under the boards, where they have been hurt since losing Malone and LaShanda Smiley.

Smiley, who has missed the past four games, is out indefinitely because of a badly sprained ankle.

Add missing from action: The Poly High girls’ basketball team will be without sophomore forward Ciara Jeffries, who suffered a bruised retina in her right eye in the Parrots’ 42-28 victory over Sylmar on Friday.

Jeffries is expected to be sidelined for 10 days.

Injured Knights: Two members of the Notre Dame boys’ soccer team are out for the season from recent injuries.

Junior Kris Killian suffered a broken arm Jan. 22 against Harvard-Westlake and freshman Shuan Anthony suffered a broken rib Saturday against Alemany.
