Warning Issued on Thefts of Car Registration Tags

Share

Police are warning car owners to take precautions with their registration tags because of a string of sticker thefts on the Westside.

To deter thieves, authorities suggest removing previous tags from license plates before placing new stickers, then diagonally slashing the tag with a razor blade.

About 50 registration tags and license plates have been reported stolen in the last month in the Palms area, said Los Angeles Police Det. Mike Elenitsky.

Many of the tags have been taken from cars in underground parking garages of apartment buildings. Thieves have been stealing the registration tags by removing the sticker from the license plate, removing the plate, or clipping a corner of the plate with shears, Elenitsky said.
