Local Officials Enter State Legislative Races

Share

West Covina Mayor Ben Wong, Monterey Park Councilwoman Judy Chu and Walnut Councilman Bob Pacheco are among local officials who filed papers to run in the June primary for seats in the state Legislature.

Wong, a Democrat, is seeking the 60th Assembly District seat being vacated by Gary Miller (R-Diamond Bar). Pacheco and Andy Ramirez, both Republicans, also are seeking the seat. Because Miller is not seeking reelection, other candidates have until Monday to file. Among Republicans expected to file are Diamond Bar Councilman Bob Huff, Hacienda-La Puente school board member Norman Hsu and Lincoln Club President Mike Radlovic.

Meanwhile, seven Democrats are seeking to succeed Assemblywoman Diane Martinez (D-Monterey Park) in the 49th Assembly District. The candidates are Chu, Rosemead Councilman Bob Bruesch, Alhambra Mayor Barbara Messina, the outgoing assemblywoman’s sister, Susan Martinez-Baker, Frank Venti and Grace Romero.

In the hotly contested 44th District, Assemblyman Jack Scott (D-Pasadena) faces a challenge from Republican Ken LaCorte.
