‘Sister’ Relationship Sought With Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain
Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, would become Anaheim’s second sister city under a proposal before the City Council on Tuesday.
The Spanish city shares many similarities with Anaheim, said John Poole, president of Anaheim Sister Cities Assn., which is recommending creating formal ties.
“We have a Spanish heritage here, we have a similar-size population, and both cities are very progressive,” Poole said.
The purpose of the relationship includes sharing and exchanging ideas relating to business, culture and education, promoting economic cooperation and developing better understanding of each other’s cultures, Poole said.
For 22 years, Anaheim has had a relationship with Mito, Japan. The association plans to develop relationships with other cities around the globe, such as one in Germany, since German settlers developed Anaheim, Poole said.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the council chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. A 3 p.m. workshop on the proposal will be held. Information: (714) 765-5166.
