District to Discuss Newport Coast Plans

The Laguna Beach Unified School District would receive between $3 million and $4 million a year in property tax revenue from development along Newport Coast, according to a financial report to be discussed at today’s school board meeting.
The revenue, previously unknown to the board, would be on top of the $6.6 million from the developer, the Irvine Co., to lessen the impact of enrolling an estimated 342 students expected from the new homes.
But financial incentives may not persuade many parents, who oppose higher school enrollments.
School trustees are expected to decide the issue on March 23, Trustee Steven Rabago said.
The 7 p.m. meeting will be in the district’s administration office, 550 Blumont St.
