Council May Expand Redevelopment Area
A proposed 54-acre entertainment and retail project could move closer to reality tonight, but first the City Council will consider expanding redevelopment territory citywide.
Some of the land needed for the so-called Riverwalk project, proposed for Garden Grove and Harbor boulevards, is already within redevelopment project boundaries. But additional acreage needs to be shifted within the boundaries to make the entire project eligible for redevelopment funding incentives.
Matt Fertal, director of community development, said the council is being asked to approve a study that would examine redevelopment needs citywide, not just in the Harbor Boulevard area. “This is something we do from time to time,” he said.
About 2,000 acres of Garden Grove is designated as redevelopment land. The proposed study is the first step in a lengthy process to get new areas designated as redevelopment territory.
The council meets at 7 p.m. in the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
