Cultural Fair to Offer Health Screenings

Several area service organizations will team up for a Valentine’s Day health and cultural fair Saturday at the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center.

The free event will include blood pressure and heart rhythm testing, TB testing, mammograms, nutritional, addiction and gynecological advice, podiatric service and a variety of other health information and exams, organizers said. Immunizations will also be offered.

The fair is being sponsored by Asian Indian Network and Advocacy in conjunction with the Japanese American Community Center and the Asian Women Tobacco Control Project.

Other contributors include the Pacific Asian Alcohol and Drug Project, Asian Pacific Islander Council of the San Fernando Valley, Tri-Valley Indian Medical Center, Asian Pacific Community Services, Pacoima Health Center, Mid-Valley Health Center and the Los Angeles County Filipino American Assn.

The fair will also feature live entertainment, including classical music and dance from India, Japan and Sri Lanka. Free Indian vegetarian food will also be served.

The fair, which is open to the public, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 12953 Branford St. For information, call (213) 387-7309.
