Fiesta to Pave Way for Swallows’ Landing

Share

The swallows may be weeks away from their famed annual return to Mission San Juan Capistrano, but it’s not too early to begin celebrating.

On Feb. 18, the Fiesta de las Golondrinas and Taste of San Juan will kick off a monthlong celebration, concluding March 19 with the legendary Swallows Day festival.

The Swallows Day celebration, held on St. Joseph’s Day, is a tradition that started in the 1700s with Father Junipero Serra, who clanged the mission bells to welcome the tiny birds.
