FBI agents have arrested a U.S. Marine from Twentynine Palms in connection with eight bank robberies in Southern California, including three in Los Angeles County, authorities said Wednesday.

Lance Cpl. Anthony Perez is scheduled to be in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles today to face a detention hearing, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Bosley.

Perez faces federal bank robbery charges for his alleged role in the holdups, which include the Dec. 16 robbery of a Home Savings in Woodland Hills; a Nov. 15 heist at a Coast Federal Bank in Valencia, and a Dec. 12 holdup at a Cal Fed in La Crescenta.

Perez is also accused of robbing banks in Seal Beach, Palm Desert, Palm Springs and Cathedral City, Bosley said.

Implicated in the crimes is Corbin Rowley, 21, a Marine corporal, who is also accused of robbing a North Hollywood Gelson’s supermarket Jan. 24 while on a four-day pass from the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps base.

Rowley first fled to Arizona and contacted Marine friends, telling them he was going to turn himself in. But he instead went to visit a friend in Maryland and surrendered to authorities there.

Los Angeles police are working to extradite Rowley, Bosley said.
