City Looks Into Closing Leaky Tiki Bar Again

Share

City officials are again investigating whether the Leaky Tiki bar should be shut down, citing assaults and other reported problems since 1992.

City Attorney Richard D. Jones said the tavern, at 280 E. La Habra Blvd., has failed to hire security guards, as required by its entertainment permit, which allows a jukebox and pool table.

Council members are considering revoking the tavern’s business license, saying problems go beyond music and pool tables.

Meanwhile, the Alcohol and Beverage Control agency is conducting an investigation as it considers revoking the bar’s liquor license.

Police sought the reviews, saying they’ve handled about 100 calls at the bar over the past year.

An attorney for the bar said she is sure officials will determine the Leaky Tiki is operating legally.

Over the years, the city twice revoked the tavern’s entertainment permit. Leaky Tiki sued the city in return, each time winning back its entertainment permit.
