Police May Get Help in Transcribing Reports

Share

To help free patrol officers from time-consuming paperwork, the City Council on Tuesday will consider hiring a company for about $33,000 to transcribe police reports.

Police officials are recommending that $33,480 of a federal law enforcement grant fund be used for transcribing services.

Under the proposal, officers would dictate reports to the private transcription company, instead of spending time to handwrite the reports.

“We figure by doing this, the amount of time we’d save over a year would be equivalent of putting one more officer on the street,” said Matt Reynolds, police services manager.

The benefit, Reynolds said, is that police will be more readily available to respond to calls for service.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave. Information: (714) 993-8231.
