Art Exhibit Focuses on Mother Teresa
The face was unmistakable. So were the colors: blue and white.
The late Mother Teresa was on display in watercolors and oil Saturday at the opening of an art exhibit at the Gull Wings Children’s Museum, honoring the world-famous nun.
Port Hueneme artist Mamun Reazi joined hundreds of admirers Saturday as they strolled past nearly 20 paintings throughout the museum.
One portrait features a close-up profile of Mother Teresa, her trademark white and blue robe draped over her head. Other paintings show the nun comforting the poor or sick.
Reazi calls the “Unforgettable Mother Teresa” exhibit an introduction to her life of sacrifice.
“She’s always helping others. Her life was all about sacrifice,” said Reazi, who met the nun while studying art in Bangladesh in 1980. “The message I hope to get across to people, to children, is to help others.”
The exhibit also includes several landscapes painted by Reazi, of locales ranging from Bangladesh to Fillmore.
The exhibit runs through March 14. Admission to the museum at 418 W. 4th St. is $3.50 general and free for children younger than 2.
