Cyclist Eludes Officers in High-Speed Chase
A motorcyclist doing wheelies in the Silver Strand area Wednesday led authorities on a high-speed chase through Port Hueneme and Oxnard before escaping on Pacific Coast Highway south of Point Mugu Rock.
The 30-minute chase began in the area of Island View Avenue when the speeding motorcyclist lifted his front wheel in front of a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer, said CHP Officer Dave Cockrill.
The CHP officer chased the motorcyclist at speeds up to 90 mph, Cockrill said. Oxnard police took over the pursuit when the motorcyclist reached their city.
But, like the CHP, Oxnard police could not get close enough to the cyclist to read a license plate number, Cockrill said. Police gave up the chase as the motorcyclist sped south on PCH toward the Los Angeles County line.
