* The World Children’s Transplant Fund raised $30,000 at its Hearts of Gold celebrity auction on Feb. 11 at the Duet restaurant and nightclub in Westwood. The charity, which facilitates organ transplants for needy children around the world, was founded by former Los Angeles Police Deputy Chief Mark Kroeker. In its 10 years, it has established pediatric organ transplant centers in Buenos Aires and in San Jose, Costa Rica. The funds raised at this year’s event will go toward a third, to be built in Armenia to serve poor children in countries including Russia, Syria and Israel.

At the opening-night cast party for L.A. Opera’s “The Magic Flute,” the L.A. Opera League presented the company with a check for $100,000 to sponsor the production. Since L.A. Opera was founded in 1986, the league has donated more than $1.2 million for the company’s support.

KCBS news anchor Kyle Kraska was among the bachelors on the auction block Feb. 12 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire, where a sellout crowd of women bid for dates with celebrities to benefit the Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles. The event netted more than $100,000 for the program to provide role models for fatherless boys.

More than 450 music supporters celebrated Valentine’s Day at the Pasadena Symphony’s “A Night in the Vienna Woods” ball at the Ritz-Carlton, Huntington, raising $100,000 for the orchestra.
