Picketers

Share

Your story about the labor dispute and picketing at Whole Foods markets (Feb. 14) ignored those who have decided not to shop at Whole Foods. We live close to the market you highlighted and certainly wish we could shop there. But we are very concerned about the expansion of aggressive, anti-union businesses like Whole Foods. As longtime union supporters, we know that picket lines are lines of moral authority that ask us to put principle ahead of convenience.

Shoppers who cross the picket line are not staying out of the conflict. They are siding with powerful corporate interests against ordinary working people. Their actions contribute to the real decline of wages and erosion of working conditions many in America have experienced. These shoppers have obviously developed detailed knowledge about nutrition, health and hygiene. It’s too bad that they are so neglectful when it comes to the well-being of others.
