Built in the Gothic Style

Share

Coven 13 promoters Joseph Brooks and Jason Lavitt have brewed up two nights of gothic performances, adding an interesting twist to an interestingly twisted scene. Both events are at the El Rey Theatre on Wilshire Boulevard.

Sunday’s Gothic Carnival offers a modern-day tweak on back-in-the-day freak shows. Think stilts, live marionette dolls, demons in drag and medieval flame spewers--and that’s just the fans. The event is centered around a midnight performance by L.A.’s Deep Eynde, a theatrical quartet with a fetish for the darker side of cabaret.

The second gothic phantasmagoria is March 15, when L.A. gets its first shot at hosting this year’s Projekt Festival, an event sponsored by the Chicago-based “darkwave” label Projekt. Among the bands: Faith and the Muse, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, and Live Spirals Downward. Here’s the perfect photo op to send a snap home to mom, with all your new friends (don’t airbrush out those devil horns). Ticket info: (213) 934-1339.
