Newly incorporated Pacific Marine Resources, whose investors include Keeton Industries of Fort Collins, Colo., joined forces with Atlanta-based lumber company Georgia-Pacific Corp. in proposing a farm that would cultivate red abalone and white shrimp on an idle part of the Georgia-Pacific complex in Fort Bragg. Keeton has built aquaculture facilities abroad for other companies. Plans for the Fort Bragg operation call for devoting 30 acres to raise 25 million abalone and 400 tanks for 400,000 pounds of shrimp. They say they are confident all regulatory hurdles can be cleared. The proposed facility is expected to cost at least $1.5 million and create about 60 jobs.
