Critics of Project Assail Feuer’s Visit With Residents

City Councilman Mike Feuer has spent the last three weekends knocking on the doors of constituents to talk to them about Village Center Westwood, a proposed development of shops and movie theaters.

Feuer aide Daniel Hinerfeld said the councilman decided to speak to residents and distribute fliers about the proposed development because he felt “there’s a lot of misinformation about the project and a lot of snap opinions made on no information.”

But opponents of the project said they felt Feuer was lobbying for developer Ira Smedra on a project they claim adds too many movie theater seats to the village and unnecessarily bars traffic from Glendon Avenue.

“I’ve never heard of an elected city official going around campaigning for one developer’s project,” said Terry Tegnazian, co-president of Save Westwood Village, a group opposing the project. “It’s unseemly.”

Hinerfeld said Feuer “is not stumping in behalf of a developer. He’s trying to disseminate accurate information about a development.”
