14-Year-Old Held in Fatal Shooting
A 14-year-old boy was arrested Thursday in the shooting death of another youth in El Monte.
Sheriff’s deputies originally believed the victim, Jose Montoya, 16, accidentally shot himself Monday while toying with a handgun.
But a coroner’s investigation “revealed the victim died at the hands of another,” said Deputy Michael Irving.
The suspect, whose name was withheld because of his age, was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail, officials said.
