City Builds on Ways to Raise Its Visibility

Share

Officials hope to raise the visibility of this 2-square-mile city this year by building distinctive city markers at major entryways and by improving streets and landscaping.

City Manager Daniel E. Keen said the boundary markers will be erected in 1998 to help identify La Palma to motorists who drive through and don’t notice the city. In addition, major arteries such as Orangethorpe and La Palma avenues will get new medians and landscaping.

The city also plans to build a 60-unit apartment complex on Walker Street just south of Orangethorpe Avenue to provide low-cost housing for senior citizens while also becoming a source of increased revenue for the city.

Officials will also look for guidance from a citywide survey that asked residents to voice their concerns and goals for the city in years to come, Keen said.
