Pierce to Offer Paralegal Studies
Pierce College will launch a program in paralegal studies in the spring semester, adding to its schedule of night courses a series of modules designed to teach about the legal profession.
Students enrolled in the program will learn about contracts, corporate law, real estate law, bankruptcy law, probate law and criminal law, as well as research and organizational skills that could serve an employee in any field, said Eunice Caplan, the course instructor.
The program is composed of five nine-week modules, each costing $295. It is offered through the college’s new Center for Innovative Studies, which was introduced to place an emphasis on providing students with job skills.
The paralegal program is expected to train students to work for lawyers as researchers, office managers and document preparers, say campus officials.
The night courses, which begin in February, will be supplemented with several classes on Saturdays when students will use the Internet to research cases.
The college will hold an orientation meeting to outline the program at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 in Room 1109 of the Social Science Building, 6201 Winnetka Ave.
