Alpha Microsystems Posts Loss

Computer services provider Alpha Microsystems reported a third-quarter loss Monday on lower revenue.

The company said it lost $688,000, or 6 cents a share, for the third fiscal quarter ended Nov. 23, compared with a net loss of $890,000, or 8 cents a share, for the comparable quarter a year earlier. Revenue dropped 6% to $5.1 million from $5.4 million, which included $580,000 from operations that were divested.

For the nine months, the company posted a net loss of $2.6 million, or 24 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier net loss of $1.9 million, or 19 cents a share. Revenue was down 24% to $14.3 million from $18.7 million.

Alpha Microsystems also said it has acquired the telephone interconnect services operations of a unit of Applied Cellular Technology Inc. for an estimated $2.2 million.

Alpha Microsystems said it expects the acquisition from Applied Cellular’s ATI Communications unit, located in Pennsylvania, to boost its annual revenue by 20%.

Applied Cellular Technology installs, sells and services cellular phone and other wireless services.
