KINGS REPORT / NOTES : Chabot Isn’t Eligible for Expansion Yet

Share

After starting Monday night’s 3-2 loss against the Vancouver Canucks, goaltender Frederic Chabot, who was recalled from Houston of the International Hockey League on Sunday, needs to play at least 31 minutes in at least four more games to be eligible to be exposed for the upcoming expansion draft later this year.

“[Chabot] played great. . . . he didn’t hurt us,” Coach Larry Robinson said about Chabot, who dropped to 1-3-2 this season and 1-5-4 in his NHL career.

“Freddie will probably go back to [Houston] when we get to Los Angeles. He’s only allowed, however, to come up for 30 days total.”

Chabot, signed as a free agent before the start of the season, was 6-1 with a 1.86 goals-against average with the Aeros after being sent down to the IHL on Dec. 17.

Defenseman Doug Zmolek played only 1:21 against Vancouver before leaving the game because of a concussion and a cut above his left eye from a fight with the Canucks’ Donald Brashear at 5:36 of the first period.

Zmolek, who has 64 penalty minutes, needed six stitches to close the cut and did not return to the game.

The Kings will have a special “Elvis Night” promotion for Thursday’s game against Buffalo at the Great Western Forum.

Any fan dressed like Elvis Presley will get in free and the person with the best costume will be awarded two season tickets.

Ian Laperriere, who did not make the recent two-game trip, is listed as day to day because of a mild concussion and an eye infection.
