Northridge Women Hang On, 67-65

After a second half that saw the lead change hands three times and the score tied three times, the Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team pulled ahead of Montana State to stay on a breakaway layup by Tammie Mills with 3:42 remaining and hung on for a 67-65 victory in a Big Sky Conference game at Montana State on Thursday.

Freshman Edniesha Curry scored 23 points for the Matadors (6-6, 3-0 in conference play), who have a four-game winning streak and have surpassed their conference and overall victory totals from last season (4-23, 2-14).

Freshman forward Myesha Saleem had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Northridge after sitting out Monday’s victory over Eastern Washington because of a sprained right ankle.

In other women’s basketball games:

Ventura 88, West L.A. 40--Amirah Leonard had 19 points, six assists and five steals for the Pirates (18-1), who won for the 16th consecutive time in a Western State Conference game at West L.A. Keyana Stanford added 16 points, while Kelly Tobin had 14.

Santa Barbara 68, Pierce 67--Cheryl Flores had 24 points, six assists and five steals for the Brahmas (2-11) in a WSC loss at Woodland Hills.

Canyons 75, Moorpark 62--Maxine Unverferth scored 30 points and had 18 rebounds for the Cougars (12-5) in a WSC game at College of the Canyons.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Valley 82, Santa Barbara 48--Leon Brisport scored 19 points and had five blocks for the Monarchs (14-5) in a WSC game at Santa Barbara City College.

Canyons 76, Oxnard 63--Moses Linsey scored 13 points for the Cougars (8-8) in a WSC victory at Oxnard.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Pepperdine d. La Verne, 15-4, 15-3, 15-7--George Romain had 11 kills and four blocks for the Waves (1-0) in a nonconference victory at Pepperdine.

Romain had an attack percentage of .625, while Pepperdine outhit La Verne, .403 to .025.
