‘Madama Butterfly’ Kicks Off Opera Pacific’s ‘98-99 Season

Opera Pacific will open its four-opera 1998-99 season with Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly,” Nov. 3-8, at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa. Alternating as Cio-Cio San will be Paula Delligatti and Marie Plette. Jay Hunter Morris and Carlo Ventre will alternate as Pinkerton. John DeMain will conduct. The San Francisco Opera production will be directed by Ron Daniels.

Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Hollander” will follow, Jan. 19-24, 1999. Jeanne-Michele Charbonnet will sing Senta. The Dutchman will be announced. DeMain will conduct. The Minnesota Opera production will be directed by Keith Warner.

A double bill of Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci” and Orff’s “Carmina Burana” will be given Feb. 23-28. Cassandra Riddle will sing Nedda. Gordon Hawkins will sing Tonio. Canio will be announced. DeMain will conduct. The Portland Opera production will be directed by Christopher Mattliano.

Donizetti’s “La Fille du Regiment” will be given April 6-11. Lynette Tapia will sing Marie. John Osborn will sing Tonio. Richard Bonynge will conduct. The production, to be announced, will be directed by Stuart Maunder.
