Penalties Costly in Other Areas

Since early December, the Kings have ranked among the bottom teams in the NHL in shots allowed as opponents average slightly more than 30 a game. Coach Larry Robinson says the number of penalties called on the Kings has been primarily responsible.

“The fact that we’re giving up 21 minutes a game in penalties is going to put your shot total up,” Robinson said. “Killing penalties so much [equates to higher shot attempts]. It goes hand in hand.”

In averaging 3.52 goals a game at the Forum, the Kings have the highest home average in the league.
