Irvine police released a sketch Monday of the man who shot and critically injured one woman and attempted to rape another at an industrial business complex last week.

The wounded woman has been identified as Teresa Guevara, 34, of Rancho Santa Margarita. Guevara was listed in grave condition Monday at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

Last Friday night, a man walked into Lanier Copyprint, a commercial printing company, at 18241 McDurmott West and accosted a female employee in the rear of the warehouse. He forced her into a nearby office, where they ran into Guevara.

Surprised by the co-worker, the man fired twice, striking Guevara in the shoulder and in the head, said Sgt. Al Murray.

After the shooting he tried to sexually assault the first woman, but didn’t succeed. He then forced her into his car at gunpoint, driving off in a dark, late-model Nissan Altima.

The assailant drove back to the company after five to 10 minutes, and released the woman unharmed. Police received a 911 call from her about 9 p.m.

The intruder apparently come in through the unlocked front door while the two employees were working the late shift alone, Murray said. The suspect is described as a young black man, in his mid-20s, about 5-foot-9 with a medium build, medium skin tone and a clear complexion. He had no facial hair or visible tattoos, according to the witness.

At the time he was a wearing a gray-and-white T-shirt with horizontal stripes, a gray sweatshirt with a zippered front, jeans, and a black watch cap or baseball cap.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Det. Larry Montgomery at (714) 724-7173.
