Trustees Considering Developer Fee Increase

Share

Fees charged to developers who build homes within Fullerton Joint Union High School District’s boundaries soon may increase.

Developers are charged $1.84 per square foot for each new single-family dwelling. District trustees are considering raising that fee to $2.02.

District officials said the hike would help pay for new teachers and expansion projects that would be needed if the student population continues to grow from the 10,200 level this year.

A recent study predicts enrollment from existing residential units will grow by about 5,550 high school students over the next 10 to 12 years.

In addition, about 900 pupils are expected from 8,235 residential units proposed throughout district boundaries, which include Fullerton, La Habra and Buena Park.

The proposed fee increase drew opposition from one developer at a recent public hearing. Another hearing is set for Tuesday, when trustees are expected to make a decision on the proposal.
